Vector conversion
Convert EPS to GIF
Updated Jul 2026
EPS is a vector format design software uses for print and logos; GIF is a compressed pixel image that browsers, chat apps, and almost anything else can open. To convert, you rasterize the EPS into pixels at whatever size you need and save it as a GIF. Doing this on your own computer means your logo file never gets uploaded anywhere.

How to convert EPS to GIF
- Open Morphjet and drag in the EPS file, or an entire folder of logos, all at once.
- Choose GIF as the output format and set the pixel size you need, since GIF is a fixed-resolution image rather than a vector.
- Convert. The GIF is written next to your original, and the file never leaves your machine.
EPS vs GIF: what actually changes
| EPS | GIF | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Small to moderate, since it stores shapes and text as instructions | Small, thanks to built-in compression, though it grows with more colors |
| Scalability | Scales to any size with no loss of quality | Fixed resolution, gets blocky if enlarged |
| Color range | Full color range, including smooth gradients | Limited to 256 colors, so gradients can band or dither |
| Editability | Shapes and text stay editable in design software | Flattened to pixels, no longer editable as shapes |
| Transparency | Yes, full vector transparency | Yes, but only fully transparent or fully opaque, no soft edges |
| Compatibility | Needs design software to open properly | Opens in any browser, chat app, or image viewer |
When to convert, and when not to
Convert EPS to GIF when you need a logo or graphic to work as a small web image, in an email signature, on a forum, or as a simple animation, without anyone needing design software just to open it.
Keep the EPS if you still need to edit the shapes and text, or if the graphic will ever be printed or resized larger, since a GIF can't scale back up without looking blurry or blocky.
Why not just use an online converter?
Logo and brand files are often unreleased or under an agreement before launch. Uploading an EPS to an online converter just to get a quick GIF means that file sits on someone else's server, even after you're done with it. Converting on your own computer keeps the artwork exactly where it started, on your machine.
Questions
Does converting EPS to GIF lose quality?
It changes in kind rather than just degrading. EPS is vector art that scales to any size, and once it's a GIF it's locked to the pixel dimensions you chose. Text and shapes become fixed pixels, so enlarging the GIF later will make it look blocky.
Will the GIF keep the transparent background from my logo?
Yes, but GIF transparency is all or nothing. Curved or anti-aliased edges that looked smooth in the EPS can look slightly jagged once flattened to GIF.
Can I still edit the text and shapes after converting?
No. Once it's a GIF, the logo is a grid of pixels rather than separate shapes and text. Keep the original EPS if you'll need to edit it again.
Why would I want a GIF instead of the EPS?
A GIF opens instantly in any browser, chat app, or older software that can't open vector files. It's the practical choice when you just need the logo to display somewhere, not to be edited or printed.
Can this be done without uploading the file anywhere?
Yes. Morphjet converts EPS to GIF locally on your Mac or Windows computer, so the file never travels over the internet.
Morphjet converts EPS, GIF, and 1,800+ other formats, all on your machine. Launching this July.
