Documents conversion
Convert Markdown to PNG
Updated Jul 2026
Markdown is plain text with light formatting marks, and PNG is an image, so converting means rendering that formatted text into pixels. Open the Markdown file in a converter, let it render the headings, bold text, and code blocks, then export as PNG. Doing this on your own computer means your notes never leave your machine.

How to convert Markdown to PNG
- Open Morphjet and drag in the Markdown file, or a whole folder of them, to convert several at once.
- Choose PNG as the output format.
- Convert. Morphjet renders the formatted text and writes the PNG next to your original, and nothing leaves your machine.
Markdown vs PNG: what actually changes
| Markdown | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Small, plain text | Larger, a rendered image |
| Editable text | Yes, open it in any text editor | No, it's flattened into pixels |
| Shows formatting without a renderer | No, raw symbols like # and ** are visible | Yes, headings and bold text display as intended |
| Searchable, selectable text | Yes | No, the words are part of the image |
| Transparency | Not applicable | Yes, PNG supports a transparent background |
| Opens everywhere | Needs a Markdown-aware app or site to look right | Yes, any image viewer |
When to convert, and when not to
Convert Markdown to PNG when you want a fixed, formatted snapshot of a note or README to drop into a slide, a doc, or a chat where the recipient can't render Markdown themselves.
Keep the Markdown file if you still need to edit it, track changes in version control, or search the text, since none of that works once it's an image.
Why not just use an online converter?
Markdown files often hold drafts, internal notes, or project documentation you haven't meant to publish. Running them through an online converter means that text sits on a server you don't control while it's rendered. Converting on your own computer means the words in your notes never leave your machine.
Questions
Will the PNG show my headings, bold text, and code blocks properly formatted?
Yes. The conversion renders the Markdown the way it's meant to look, with headings, bold and italic text, lists, and code blocks displayed, not the raw # and ** symbols.
Can I still edit the text after converting to PNG?
No. A PNG is a flat image, so the text is no longer selectable or editable. Keep the original .md file if you'll need to make changes later.
Does converting to PNG lose any quality?
No pixel quality is lost, PNG is a lossless image format. What you do lose is the text itself being searchable or selectable, since it becomes part of the image.
Can I get a transparent background instead of white?
PNG supports transparency, so it's possible depending on how the render is set up. A white background is the more common default for readable text.
Can this be done without uploading my notes anywhere?
Yes. Morphjet renders and converts the file locally on your computer, so it works with your network off and nothing is sent anywhere.
Morphjet converts Markdown, PNG, and 1,800+ other formats, all on your machine. Launching this July.
