Convert ODT to GIF
Updated Jul 2026
An ODT is a text document, while GIF is an image format, so converting one to the other turns each page into a flat picture instead of editable text. Open the ODT in a converter and export it as GIF. Doing this on your own computer means the document's contents never get uploaded anywhere to make that happen.

How to convert ODT to GIF
- Open Morphjet and drag in the ODT document you want to convert. Add a single file or a whole folder at once.
- Choose GIF as the output format. Morphjet renders each page of the document as an image.
- Convert. The GIF files are written next to your original document, and nothing leaves your machine.
ODT vs GIF: what actually changes
| ODT | GIF | |
|---|---|---|
| Editable text | Yes, words and formatting stay editable | No, the page becomes fixed pixels |
| File size | Small, especially for text-only documents | Larger, one image per page |
| Visual fidelity | Crisp at any zoom level | Fine for text and line art, limited to 256 colors |
| Multi-page documents | One file holds every page | Usually one GIF per page |
| Opens without special software | No, needs a word processor | Yes, any browser or image viewer |
When to convert, and when not to
Convert ODT to GIF when you want to drop a document into a chat, forum post, or webpage as a quick image preview, without asking the recipient to open a word processor.
Keep the ODT if anyone still needs to edit, comment on, or search the text, because a GIF is just a picture and the words in it aren't selectable anymore.
Why not just use an online converter?
ODT documents often hold drafts, contracts, or notes you'd rather not hand to a random web server just to get a picture out of them. An online converter means a stranger's server briefly holds the full text of your document while it works. Converting on your own computer keeps the content on your machine the entire time.
Questions
Does converting ODT to GIF keep the text editable?
No. GIF is a picture format, so once you convert, the words become fixed pixels rather than editable text. Keep the original ODT if you'll need to make changes later.
Will a long ODT document turn into one GIF or several?
Usually one GIF per page, since a single image can only hold so much before it's too tall to read comfortably. A one-page document gives you one GIF.
Does the GIF keep the fonts, colors, and layout?
Yes, visually. The page is rendered exactly as it looks in the document, fonts, spacing, and colors included, just as a flat image instead of live text.
Can I convert ODT to GIF without uploading my document?
Yes. Morphjet renders and converts the file on your own computer, so the document never has to leave your machine or pass through anyone else's server.
Morphjet converts ODT, GIF, and 1,800+ other formats, all on your machine. Launching this July.
