Convert ODT to PNG
Updated Jul 2026
ODT is a text document format used by word processors, and PNG is a plain image. To convert ODT to PNG, open the file in a converter and export each page as an image. Doing this on your own computer means the document, including anything sensitive written in it, never has to be uploaded anywhere.

How to convert ODT to PNG
- Open Morphjet and drag in the ODT file you want to convert, or a whole folder of them at once.
- Choose PNG as the output format.
- Convert. Morphjet renders each page as its own PNG, written next to your original, and nothing leaves your machine.
ODT vs PNG: what actually changes
| ODT | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Editable text | Yes, open and edit the text directly | No, it's just a picture of the page |
| File size | Small, a compact document format | Larger, a flat image per page |
| Opens without special software | No, needs a word processor | Yes, opens in any browser, image viewer, or photo app |
| Multi-page documents | One file holds every page | One image file per page |
| Transparency | Not applicable | Supported by the format, though a rendered page normally has a solid white background |
When to convert, and when not to
Convert ODT to PNG when you want a quick visual preview or thumbnail of a document, need to drop a page into a slide or webpage, or want to send someone a look at the content without requiring a word processor.
Keep the ODT if anyone still needs to edit the text, since a PNG is a flat picture of the page and the words in it can't be selected or changed.
Why not just use an online converter?
Documents often carry things you wouldn't want on a stranger's server, a resume, a contract, notes with someone's address on them. An online converter has to upload the file to render it, which means a copy of your document sits on someone else's machine, even briefly. Converting on your own computer keeps the file, and whatever is written in it, right where it started.
Questions
Does converting ODT to PNG keep the text editable?
No. The PNG is a picture of the page, not a document. If you need to edit the words afterward, keep the ODT and only convert a copy.
What happens to a multi-page ODT file?
Each page is rendered as its own PNG, so a five-page document becomes five image files. Nothing is combined into a single image.
Does the PNG keep the document's formatting?
Yes, visually. Fonts, layout, images, and spacing are rendered as they appear on the page, since the PNG is essentially a snapshot of it.
Does converting to PNG carry over the document's author or comments?
No. PNG has no field for that kind of information, so author name, revision history, and comments are left behind when you convert.
Can I convert ODT to PNG without uploading the file anywhere?
Yes. A desktop app like Morphjet renders the pages on your own computer, so the document never has to leave your machine or touch the internet.
Morphjet converts ODT, PNG, and 1,800+ other formats, all on your machine. Launching this July.
