When to convert, and when not to
Convert MOBI to EPUB when you want to read a book on a Kobo, Apple Books, or any e-reader that isn't a Kindle, or when you're moving a personal ebook library off Kindle for good.
Keep the MOBI if you only ever read on a Kindle, since Kindle devices and apps already handle MOBI natively and there's nothing to gain from converting it.
Why not just use an online converter?
Your ebook library says a lot about you, from what you read to how often. An online converter asks you to upload the book file to a server you don't control before handing it back. Converting on your own computer means the file stays put, so no copy of your book, or your reading list, ends up on someone else's server.
