Where it loses
You'd rather hear this from us than find it in week two.
- It's closed source, and it isn't free. If either one is a requirement for you, this isn't your app.
- $79 is a lot next to a free website. It's priced for people who convert files as part of their work. If you convert a handful of files a year, a website is the rational choice, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
- The first launch is slow. The installer is small, about 10 MB, but on first run it fetches the conversion engines to your machine, a couple of hundred MB, and a format you've never used may fetch its own engine the first time you pick it. The AI tools each download their model once. None of that carries anything about your files, and once it's done the wifi can go off.
- Around a third of the formats are read-only. Every camera RAW format, the older Office and ebook ones, and a handful of others: it opens them and converts out of them, but won't write them. The route list is public, so check the one you need before buying, not after.
