When to convert, and when not to

Questions
Does converting NEF to PDF lose image quality?
The pixel data itself isn't recompressed the way a JPEG is, but converting bakes in one rendering of the raw sensor data at whatever exposure and white balance were set. You lose the ability to reprocess it afterward, even though the PDF itself doesn't add further quality loss.
Can I still edit the photo once it's a PDF?
Not as a raw file. The PDF holds a flattened image, so you can no longer adjust exposure or white balance. Keep the original NEF if you might want to reprocess it later.
Will the PDF keep the camera and shot details?
Yes. The camera, lens, and shot metadata from the NEF carry into the PDF's document properties, unless you choose to strip it before converting.
