When to convert, and when not to
This makes sense when you want a written record of what was said in a recorded meeting, interview, lecture, or webinar, something you can read quickly, search for a phrase in, or paste into notes without rewatching the whole clip.
Keep the WebM if you need the picture or the sound itself, since a transcript can't show what was on screen or how something was said. It's also worth keeping the video if the audio is quiet, heavily overlapped with other voices, or mostly music or sound effects rather than speech, since transcription is less reliable in those cases.
Why not just use an online converter?
WebM recordings are often meetings, calls, or interviews, the kind of audio you'd rather not hand to a stranger. An online transcription service would mean uploading that recording to someone else's server just to get the words back as text. Does this read subtitles or file details instead of the actual speech?
No. Morphjet listens to the spoken audio in the video and writes out what it hears. It doesn't pull from an embedded subtitle track or read the file's technical metadata.
How accurate is the transcript?
It depends on the audio. Clear, single-speaker audio transcribes well. Background noise, mumbled speech, or people talking over each other will introduce more errors, so it's worth a quick read-through afterward.
Can it tell different speakers apart?
It writes out the words it hears as continuous text, without labeling who said what. For a conversation with several people, you may want to skim the transcript and add speaker names yourself.
Does this need an internet connection?
No. The audio is transcribed on your own computer, so it works with your wifi off.
